Ottawa Comiccon 2014
Hey guys,
Jenn Marvel here. Myself and the lovely
Northern Belle,
Player Two,
Critical Miss and
Reign Cosplay all headed out to Ottawa for their annual Comic Con.
Ottawa Comiccon is one of my favorite cons. It is always very well laid out big wide aisles, lots of room to walk around.
The food court had lots of options as well as food truck outside. My favorite was the fresh lemonade and the fresh ice cream booth with dipped in chocolate bars of ice cream with either sprinkles or peanuts . They also had homemade fudge and desert booth. Walking around there were the usual vendors, comics, toys weapon replicas, the t shirt tower from Stylin Online. One booth in particular which I thought was really great was the 3d printing booth. You could see all the really cool creations and designs that could be made with a simple click of a button.
On one end was the 501st very awesome elaborate booth where they had lockers with various character suits and helmets on display, and then a rebel prison where you could go inside and get photos of yourself taken behind bars. They also had a land speeder there as well you could get photos with. Along the back wall they had the Delorean From Back to the Future, The Ecto-1 from ghost busters and of course the Doctor Who Society Daleks. If you went over to the other side of the convention center there was the photo op area where you could take pictures with your favorite celebs of the con, Then through some bay doors they have the autograph area and artist alley. They had a lot of awesome guests from Christopher Lloyd, to Bruce Campbell, Amanda Tapping, Ray Park, Karl Urban, Charisma Carpenter, Sean Astin, Robert Englund, Kane Hodder and a ton of other awesome guests. They also had a bunch of cosplay guests like Nicole Marie Jean and Destiny Nickelsen. There were a lot of amazing artists in artist alley from, sketch artists , to craftsmen(women) and a lot of really cool stuff.
Warner brothers had a big Godzilla set up where you could enter to win tickets to a screening of the film. There was a cosplay photo booth and many other awesome attractions.
Something I have never experienced at a convention before were a number of Amber alerts and lost children. I commend Ottawa Comic Con for locking the building down each time it happened to make sure the children we're found safely.
The panels and Q an A's were excellent. Bruce Campbell tried to make the experience very different by doing a lot of interaction with the audience by asking us what our jobs and talents were and even having some locals come up on stage to show their talents. There was an Ash-off where all the Ash cosplayers came up on stage and he critiqued them and then let the audience vote on the best Ash.
On Sunday was the marvel shoot a group of about 20 cosplayers got together to take photos of their marvel themed cosplays.
All in all I had a great experience. Met a lot of new people and got to see ray park pulling off some pretty spectacular double light sabre moves on the con floor.
See you there next year!!
