Rapunzel Cosplay

The lovely Lauren Marie Ewart from Drop of Sunlight Entertainment submitted these awesome Rapunzel photos! Here is what she had to say...

"When I asked Heather Ast to make this remarkable dress for me, I had no idea it would be such a dream come true! The dress itself really captured the nature of Rapunzel and her adventurousness, as the fabric from the dress was sourced from 3 different cities! A lot of love and meticulous detail went into this project, and I'm happy to say that it really shows! Rapunzel, for me, was a no-brainer for my first cosplay. I immediately identified with the character (I saw the movie 3 times in theaters), her personality, and both her love and fear of adventure. Here's what Heather said about the process:

'Fabric and trims for this dress were sourced from stores in Chicago, St. Louis, the LA garment district and good old JoAnn Fabrics. We started by fitting a mock-up of the front lacing bodice, and the mock-up of the sleeve caps featured ‘ribbons’ drawn on with pink highlighter to make sure the placement and size were accurate. The embroidered chiffon forepart was dyed several times to get the color ‘just right’. The forepart was backed with a solid colored fabric and is sewn into the panel gored skirt, which is separate from the bodice. One of the most time consuming but fun aspects of this outfit was figuring out the look and placement of the embroidery on the skirt. Several nights were spent creating different combinations of flowers from floral trims and cut up appliques. Once the design was locked in, all the embroidered elements were attached with fabric glue and then machine sewn with coordinating thread to secure them to the skirt. Embroidered elements were also sewn onto the pink chiffon on the lower sleeve to mimic the original dress.'

Overall, we are very proud of this dress and this character. While I cannot yet make my own clothing, I am happy to say that I both believe in and support my local seamstresses and the magic that they make!"
