For those of you who may not know, quidditch has become a very real sport, bridging the gap between the Harry Potter world and our muggle world. People actually run around with brooms in between their legs, tossing the quaffle and dodging bludgers. For more information on how the sport works, click here.

In an article released on June 5th, the International Quidditch Association (IQA) announced that players from USA, France, Australia, and the UK have already been chosen by the IQA to represent their nations in an exhibition tournament set to take place from July 8th to the 9th. Players and fans alike will travel to Cutteslowe Park in Oxford, UK to unite the world of geekery and athleticism.

Furthermore, the IQA 2012 Summer Games will culminate on the evening July 9th in South Park with the final match between the top two teams as well as youth games at the Olympic torch festival.

The IQA was founded in 2005 by Xander Marshall in the hopes of fostering the creativity of JK Rowling’s sport of quidditch into the real world, a love of reading and competition, and to build a new community of Harry Potter fans and jocks alike.
